Haida Eddy

Haida Eddy

Eddies , or swirling ocean currents, are frequently formed in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of British Columbia. They are common all over the world, but these eddies formed near the Haida Gwaii archipelago are named Haida Eddies , for the people who are native to these islands. Haida eddies transport warm water off to the ocean and their primary productivity can be three times higher than in their surrounding marine environments, which creates a markedly greener tint of the eddy visible in this image, compared to the waters around it.
