PACE Mission's First Spring Bloom |
Snow is still melting in the Northeastern United States and Canada, creating a sediment plume from snowmelt runoff in the St Lawrence River . Meanwhile, the Northwestern Atlantic is blooming! The region, including the Georges Bank and the Gulf of Maine , is known for its high biological productivity, which made it a historical commercial fisheries hotspot. However, overfishing and climate change are threatening the ecosystem. This image was captured by the OCI instrument aboard PACE on April 8, 2024. |
