Primary Producers in the South Atlantic

Two thousand kilometers east of Argentina the turbulent South Atlantic Ocean exhibits eddies and filaments colored by plant-like wanderers which are aptly named, phytoplankton. The above scene was collected on January 4, 2020 by two VIIRS instruments: one aboard the Suomi-NPP satellite and one aboard the NOAA-20 satellite. Click on it to see more of the region.
