Instrument Calibration

The OLCI Sentinel-3A data are based on ESA's processing baseline collection 002.

Vicarious Calibration

The vicarious calibration for S3A OLCI used the ocean reflectance model-based approach.

Product Formats

This is the first NASA processing of the OLCI sensors. The file formats and product suites will match those emplyed in the R2014.0 multi-mission reprocessing.

Results

The comparison of the S3A-OLCI time series for global deep water (>1000m) generated for the R2022 configuration to the corresponding Aqua-MODIS time series is shown below (left panels). The ratio of S3A-OLCI to Aqua-MODIS is also shown (right panels).

The comparison of the S3B-OLCI time series for global deep water (>1000m) generated for the R2022 configuration to the corresponding S3A-OLCI time series is shown below (left panels). The ratio of S3B-OLCI to S3A-OLCI is also shown (right panels).

Comparison with In Situ Measurements

Validation of the remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) was performed relative to all available match-ups from SeaBASS and the Aerosol Robotic Network - Ocean Color (AERONET-OC). Statistical analysis, scatter plots and frequency distribution comparisons of the satellite to in situ match-ups are provided below.
