Icy Giants Swirling Content:Icebergs circulate in the South Atlantic Ocean currents near the island of South Georgia. A large drifter named A-76B used to be a part of Iceberg A-76, which was the largest floating iceberg in the world in May 2021. A-76B now covers an area of 216 square kilometers, around the size of the city of Baltimore, MD. Around them, phytoplankton is blooming, creating large green-tinted swirls. Iceberg melt plumes containing fresh, nutrient-rich water have an influence on the surface waters of their surrounding environment, sometimes promoting the growth of phytoplankton.
