Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands

As spring approaches the sea ice retreats and phytoplankton begin to bloom along the northwest coast of the mountainous Antarctic Peninsula. The clouds have also parted enough to reveal several of the South Shetland Islands on the other side of the Bransfield Strait.
