The Chatham Rise

Stretching from New Zealand's Banks Peninsula eastward past Chatham Island, the Chatham Rise is a shallower part of the sea floor over which water masses from the north and south mix leading to high production among the phytoplankton. The above Aqua/MODIS view of the resulting biomass distribution was collected on March 1, 2020 near the end of the summer. Click on it to get a larger version.
