Project Title: A One Year Pilot Study For The Inclusion of Active Optical Sensors Into Floats

Principal Investigator(s): Emmanuel Boss

Funding Agency(s): NASA

Description of the Research Project and Justification for Real-time SeaWiFS Data:

We will use ocean color data to compare it with a profiling float measuring chlorophyll
fluorescence, backscattering, oxygen and CTD every five days. This float project, to enhance
profiling float with biogeochemical measurements was itself funded by NASA. The satellite data
will provide a spatial context to the float while the float will provide a depth context to the
satellite data. We will contrast the float measurements with backscattering, chlorophyll, and
primary production products of NASA EOS.
