Project Title: Assessing the role of Photochemical Oxidation of DOC in the Upper Ocean Based On
Characterization of Optical Water Type From Satellites.

Principal Investigator(s): Martin-Traykovski, Miller, Sosik

Funding Agency(s): NASA, NSF (in collaboration with Kieber and Mopper)

Description of the Research Project and Justification for Real-time SeaWiFS Data:

The objective of our cruise work (23 June - 16 July) in the Northwest
Atlantic is to conduct in situ sampling of IOPs and to measure the rate
of DOC photodegradation for as many different optical water types as
possible. The real-time SeaWiFS data is required so that we can apply
our optical water type classification techniques in order to determine
the location and extent of each water type. This information will be
used to guide the ship to sampling stations across the region for the
duration of the cruise.
