Project Title: Monitoring of Advective Processes in The Bay of Biscay Responsible For
Anchovy Early-Life Stages Survival And Recruitment

Principal Investigator(s): Yolanda Sagarminaga

Funding Agency(s): Department of Agriculture and fisheries, Basque Government.

Description of the Research Project and Justification for Real-time SeaWiFS Data:

This project will consist in monitoring the advective processes held in the inner
Bay of Biscay during summer-early autumn that are responsible for offshore
transport of anchovy early life stages (eggs, larvae, and juveniles), and beyond
this, for their recruitment into the adult anchovy population (Uriarte et al, 2001)

Paralelly, in order to acquire biological samples from these early stage
anchovies, an adaptative sampling method (based on the real-time observations
from SeaWiFS adn AVHRR data) will be attempted with purse seiners boats fishing
juveniles for live bait purposes.
