The atmospheric correction algorithm for CZCS was basedon single scattering. MODIS convert  Multiple Scattering to single scattering to finish the correction .
Recently, i  try to build the relationship between Multiple Scattering and  single scattering.I use the equation in the attachment
to calculate the single scattering. But the equation is applicable to the optical thickness of the atmosphere
is < 0.1.I want to Know how to calaulate  single scattering when the optical thickness greater than 0.4 or 0.5,
as an error which is not to be neglected will appear If still use the equation.

There is another question: there are two phase function in the equation and one phase function multiply by two Fresnel reflectance.
I want to know  why one of the phase functions multiply by Fresnel reflectance . Are there some articles  that i can read.

The current NASA processing for both CZCS and MODIS are nearly identical and based on multiple scattering.
