Good day!
I would like to ask about seasonal climatology composite.
These are nominal boreal seasons having the certain start and end dates.
Could you explain me the reason why it is used the nominal boreal seasons as a composite algorithm.

Hi Zoya,
The start and end times for the seasonal composites were
chosen to be close to the astronomical season start and
stop times, but they don't vary year to year like the actual
astronomical solstices and equinoxes. I believe the decision
to go with astronomical seasons over, say, meteorological
seasons was somewhat arbitrary with more thought to the
length of the composite than to its start and stop times.
As to the choice of the boreal seasons, well, we are somewhat
biased, living in the northern hemisphere ourselves. Besides,
the majority of the world's population lives in the northern
hemisphere. No slight is intended to our friends down south.
