Previous Next Up Topic Products and Algorithms / Satellite Data Access / SeaWiFS refined L2 subscription not working? (locked) (5822 hits)

Hi,

We did a subscription (id=1011, user=gb) to receive all refined SeaWiFS L2 products, but it seems we only get L1A_GAC products.
We have the same subscription for MODISA and it works well.
Do you have an idea of the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Julien

Julien,

This was a bug in the subscription manager.  It has been fixed, and i reset the status for the files for subscription 1011 to have them staged correctly.  You should now see marker files for the L2 files in your directory.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Regards,
john

John,

Thanks a lot to have fixed this bug, but unfortunately I am still not able to download the products.

Now I have well on my ftp subscription directory Level-2 products as S2010095141408.L2_GAC_OC.Z (is .Z extension ok because the L2 are compressed in bz2?).
When I try in my browser the address http://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi/getfile/S2010095141408.L2_GAC_OC.Z I get this error
"Status: 404 Not Found Apparently, the file you seek is not available. Sorry.
OK
The document has moved here http://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/restrict/getfile/S2010095141408.L2_GAC_OC.Z"
and the redirected link does not work too.

Note that I am not able to find my product using the file search utility because the latests SeaWiFS L2 products I get with it are for the julian day 090:
http://oceandata.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi/file_search.cgi?search=S2010090*&dtype=L2&sensor=seawifs&results_as_file=1&addurl=1&std_only=1
The download for these julian day 090 L2 products works.

On the other hand I found my S2010095141408.L2_GAC_OC products using the L2 browser:
http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi/browse.pl?sub=level1or2&per=DAY&day=14704&prm=CHL&set=10&mon=14669&sen=sw&typ=GAC&rad=0&frc=0&all=1&id=1271237649.31133&cn=90&cs=-90&cw=-180&ce=180&dnm=D&file=S2010095141408.L2_GAC_OC_CHLOR_A_BRS&ndx=10&wid=124&hgt=1800

Maybe my problem is related to the "14-day embargo on all recent SeaWiFS data" and I must wait 14 days before downloading the files staged on my subscription ftp directory?

Best Regards,

Julien

Julien,

This bug has also been fixed, and again i reset the status for all of your files.  Now they have the .bz2 suffix, and you should be able to download them.

Thanks again John to have quickly fixed this bug.

The download still does not work, but I think this is because all the files staged on my subscription ftp directory are more recent than the "14-day embargo on all recent SeaWiFS data", could you confirm that ?

Best,

Julien

Yes.  Once the embargo period expires, you'll be able to retrieve the files.
You will also need to authenticate with your SeaWiFS authorized user
information - at least until 5 years from date of collection.

Hi Nazanin,

There is a two-week embargo period for SeaWiFS data because
of our contract with GeoEye.  The most recent two weeks of data
are always unavailable fro download.

If you need more recent data, you can download MODIS data.

In addition, you need to be an authorized SeaWiFS data user
to obtain SeaWiFS data newer than 5 years.

The username/password provided by our website for user services
does not automatically grant you access to SeaWiFS data.

Hi,

My subscription worked well during several weeks but now there are only recent files on the FTP, for example from 6 to 8 May at this time, which means that we cannot download anything because this is before the 14-day embargo.
It seems that files older than 5 days are automatically deleted, but I don't know why... do you have an idea of the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Julien

Julien,

The subscription is working if zero-length files are being staged in your subscription directory.  However, with the current model, you have to manage the marker files on your end and continue to try to get them via HTTP until you are successful.  As you pointed out, for SeaWiFS this might take 2 weeks.  This is not ideal, and we are working on an update to the subscription system that will change the behavior so that the zero-length marker files do not show up until the files are available.  For now, the best solution is to download the marker files as they appear and periodically try to get them via HTTP.

John,

I already handle the 14-day embargo by downloading only zero-length files older than 14 day, but the big problem is that currently it seems the subscription only keeps on the FTP the zero-length files for the last 5 days and deletes all the older files. The result is that at the end I cannot download anything. The only solution I see is maintaining on my side a list of all files I have seen on the FTP, I will do that for the moment but this is not practical at all.
I have the same subscription but for MODIS-Aqua (id=1010, user=gb), and the 15 last days are kept on the FTP, why is this only 5 days for SeaWiFS?
Note that few weeks before the files were never automatically deleted from the FTP, do you changed this recently?

thanks,

Julien
