I installed Seadas4.9 in REDHAT enterprize edition 4.0 in a user account (Not root).
But as per instruction i changed the .bashrc file in other user to access Seadas.
Though seadas is working fine with the user where i installed but it didnot work for other users.
all our user accounts are running B-shell and somebody please help.

Changing read/write/execute permissions on SeaDAS directories and files will
help for multiple user sharing.

type command :  chmod 771 seadas4.9

this will allow group have r/w/x permissions

The directory listing after this change would be:

drwxrwx--x  58192 20 June 11:58 seadas4.9/

File type: Directory
Owner permissions: Read (r), Write (w), Execute (x)
Group permissions: Read (r), Write (w), Execute (x)
Other permissions: Execute (x)

For SeaDAS 4.9, other users who are sharing the main SeaDAS installation do not need write permissions, only read and execute permissions. Please refer to the following page for shared install instructions: http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/seadas/doc/toplevel/shared.html

I forget to write in my first post that I changed and tried Seadas in various way.
I changed permission of Seadas4.9 directory into drwxrwxrwx...and changed owner to root...etc etc..
even as suggested by anonymous and mike , i changed and also changed the .bashrc ..but it didnot work.
we have full fledged IDL to run seadas also.

Now please someone suggest me.

One of my friend suggest me that please install Seadas4.9 in root to access multiple user, however official Seadas website suggested not to install.
The problem of Seadas4.9 still exists. If any other information is required then i will provide it soon.

The first thing I would ask is did you follow all of the instructions at:

If so, then could you please give us a specific example of what happens when another user tries to use SeaDAS and it does not work for them?  Does it even start up successfully?  Or is it that one of the processing programs is not working correctly?  Please give as many details as possible including the terminal output listing the errors involved.

Also, yes the website says not to install as the "root" user, this is correct, and you should not do that.

Thanks for your kind reply.
When I am in MY account then seadas is running is fine.
But when we are going to  some other user account, and when we open a terminal  then the following error message is appeared.

/home/dash/seadas4.9/config/seadas.env  Access denied
$skd
(Here Dash is one user and skd is another user).

then in prompt if we type seadas then access denied.

That means  though the permisson of Seadas4.9 folder and files associated with this folder  is not accessible by other user.
I also understood it is minor problem at .bashrc ...but i could not understand what to do.

Your problems should be from directory/file access permissions.

Unix command "chmod" allow users to grant permission
(read/write/execute) for directories/files.

You may try to type :

chmod g+rx seadas4.9            (for group share)

If still not work, try:

chmod o+rx seadas4.9            (include others)

You might also want to add a -R option to those chmods to chmod all of the directory tree.  BE VERY CAREFUL that you are in the directory tree that you think you're in before you do this.
