Moon,

Just download the same file "A2006089044500.L1A_LAC" from oceancolor data
browser website. I used SeaDAS 5.0.5 to produce Geo file without any problems
(used default values).

From screen messages, you enabled Terrain Correction and your attiude and ephermeris
files are :

You may need to download that L1A file agian and try to use SeaDAS 5.0.5
to process it.

Moon,

Yes, like Long, I was also able to successfully produce a good geolocation file on Solaris 2.8, except we are using the English version.  It may have something to do with you running the Korean version, but I doubt it.  The first thing I would suggest is that you make sure your utcpole.dat and leapsec.dat files are up-to-date.  You can do this by going the the main SeaDAS GUI menu and selecting Update->Update utcpole.dat and leapsec.dat.  Then try processing it again.  If it still does not work successfully, then you may need to change from Korean to English.  But before you do that, you should send us your logfile from the geolocation processing.  There may be a clue in the logfile to what is going wrong.

Moon, the problem is definitely because your system's language is not set to English. Are you able to set your system to use English?

Everybody,

I am using the script bellow to create a geolocate file, but it seems that I am having the same problem as Moon.

f = findfile('/dados1/carol/0501/requested_files/A*.L1A_LAC.x.hdf')
n = n_elements(f)
for i=0,n-1 do begin & $
base = STRMID(f(i), 35, 14) & $
geof=base(0)+'.GEO' & $

geolocate, ifile=f(i), geofile=geof, /disabledefinitive, /verboseftp, /disabledem, /savelog, /wait & $

clear_up & $
endfor

Here is the error message:

Running validation test on geolocation file...
/seadas50/etc/modis_geocheck.csh ./A2005001172000.GEO 95
*** ERROR: geolocate failed to produce a geolocation file.

modis_L1A_to_GEO.csh: ERROR: MODIS geolocation processing failed.
Please ensure utcpole.dat and leapsec.dat are up-to-date in:
/seadas50/var/modis/
or examine the LogUser and LogStatus files for other errors.

My seadas is english version and I have updated the utcpole.dat and leapsec.dat files.
Another thing, where do I find the log status files?

thanks

Hi Gustavo, a variety of things can go wrong when doing geolocation processing and this is not the same problem as the one Moon is having. To simplify the troubleshooting please issue the following commands on your UNIX command line:

mkdir  ~/tmpdir
cd  ~/tmpdir
modis_L1A_to_GEO.csh  /dados1/carol/0501/requested_files/A2005001172000.L1A_LAC.x.hdf  -disable-definitive  -verbose-ftp

...please look at the xterm output of the processing carefully for any errors. There should also be a file with the text "LogStatus" in its name in the ~/tmpdir/ directory. Please email the FULL xterm output and the LogStatus file to: seadas at seadas.gsfc.nasa.gov

Mike,

Something had happened!

The images that I was using to create the geofiles were from the order that I had made weeks ago and downloaded from the ftp site.  And the images came in the format  A*.L1A_LAC.x.hdf.

To make a test I had downloaded one L1A image directly from ocean color site. But this image came in in the format .L1A_LAC, only!

I donīt understand the difference?

The problem is that with the image .L1A_LAC the script runs, but with the format .L1A_LAC.x.hdf the script doesn't. Even using directly  the SEADAS the image .L1A_LAC.x.hdf doesn't create the geofile. The same error occurs.

Why is that?

Thanks

Hi Gustavo,

1) What version number of SeaDAS are you using and what is your operating system?

2) I just ordered a MODIS Aqua L1A extract from our browser and was able to run the geolocation processing successfully. I will ask again as I did in my email.. did you copy the A*.L1A_LAC.x.hdf file to your own directory and still encounter an error. If not, please do not use your script, but try the following exactly and email us ALL of your output and LogStatus file:

mkdir ~/tmpdir
cd ~/tmpdir
cp /dados1/carol/0501/requested_files/A2005001154000.L1A_LAC.x.hdf .
ls -l
df -k
modis_L1A_to_GEO.csh A2005001154000.L1A_LAC.x.hdf -disable-definitive

3) If this doesn't work please download the following file and try to process it: ftp://samoa.gsfc.nasa.gov/seadas/pub/gustavo/A2006027174500.L1A_LAC.x.hdf.bz2

4) If this doesn't work can you compress and email the file to us if it's less than 10MB, otherwise can you make the file available for me to download?

Thanks,  mike

Mike,

It's Gustavo again.

I still couldn't create the geofile. The strange thing is that when I download the image directly from the ocean color site I am able to make it with my script and with seadas program, but when I download the file from the ftp site I can create the geofile neither using the script nor the seadas program.

here is the image at the ftp site:
ftp://ocdist6.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/908040b086496549

Could you take a look please!?

Thanks

Gustavo I successfully created GEO files for both A2004231163000.L1A_LAC.x.hdf and A2004231163500.L1A_LAC.x.hdf. I'm wondering if your ftp download is corrupting the files.. Please re-download the file A2004231163500.L1A_LAC.x.hdf.bz2 and then issue the command:

  md5sum  A2004231163500.L1A_LAC.x.hdf.bz2
  (if your system doesn't have the md5sum command try "md5 A2004231163500.L1A_LAC.x.hdf.bz2"

This should report a checksum of: 93095834127ee56c28f5ad442555d3d8

If it reports a different checksum then your ftp downlaod is the problem. But if it does return this checksum, then bunzip2 the file and try the command:

  modis_L1A_to_GEO.csh  A2004231163500.L1A_LAC.x.hdf  -disable-definitive  -verbose-ftp

If you get this far and it still isn't working:

-email us ALL of your output and LogStatus file
-tell me what version number of SeaDAS you are using and your operating system
